Clinton hits Trump on veterans donation

Hillary Clinton bashed Donald Trump over his donation to veterans on Tuesday.

The former secretary of State called into both MSNBC and CNN on Tuesday afternoon, following Trump’s press conference where he announced which organizations would receive his donations — and repeatedly attacked the media.

“The problem here is the difference between what Donald Trump says and what Donald Trump does,” Clinton said on CNN. “It took a reporter to shame him into actually making his contribution and getting the money to veterans.”

“I’m glad he finally did, but I don’t know if he should get much credit for that,” she added.

Clinton touted her support for the troops on both networks, adding that she had worked with Republicans — Arizona Sen. John McCain and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham — on helping veterans.

“I’ve not only donated personally, but I have worked to provide hundreds of millions of dollars over time to help our veterans,” she told MSNBC.

Trump’s $5.6 million raised for veterans charities has been a contentious topic over the past couple weeks. In January, Trump skipped a GOP debate and hosted a fundraiser for veterans instead. Trump said he raised $6 million, but media had trouble tracking down exactly where that money went. And members of his staff gave out conflicting messages.

One Washington Post reporter spent an entire day tweeting at veterans organizations trying to figure out whether Trump had donated — and he couldn’t find one. At the end of the day Trump said he donated $1 million of his own to an organization, and on Tuesday he held a press conference to tout where the rest of the money went.
